چکیده

Quality assessment plays a very important role in almost all aspects of multimedia signal processing such as acquisition, coding, display, processing etc. Several objective quality metrics have been proposed for images, but video quality assessment has received relatively little attention. Most of the video quality metrics in the literature are simple extensions of metrics for images. In this paper, we integrate natural image statistics and the theory of optical flow to propose a new model for the statistics of video signals in the wavelet domain. This model utilizes motion information in video sequences, which is the main difference in moving from images to video. Results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of this model to describe the statistics of wavelet coefficients. We then briefly describe how this model can be used in an information theoretic framework to develop quality metrics for video sequences.

A Machine Learning Approach to No-Reference Objective Video Quality Assessment for High Definition Resources

The video quality assessment must be adapted to the human visual system, which is why researchers have performed subjective viewing experiments in order to obtain the conditions of encoding of video systems to provide the best quality to the user. The objective of this study is to assess the video quality using image features extraction without using reference video. RMSE values and processing ...

Quality Assessment of the Persian Translation of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men Based on Waddington’s Model of Translation: Application of Method A

Considering the statement that errors can affect the quality of translations, the need to adopt an objective model to analyze these errors has been one of the most debated issues in translation quality assessment. In recent decades, some objective models have emerged with an error analysis nature according to which evaluators can make decisions on the quality of translations. In this study, Met...

Survey of information theory in visual quality assessment

We survey information theoretic approaches to solve a variety of visual quality assessment (QA) problems. These approaches are generally built on natural scene statistical models and lead to practical automatic QA algorithms delivering excellent performance in terms of correlation with human judgments of quality. We study all three categories of image QA models: full reference (FR), reduced ref...

Operator agency in process intervention: tampering versus application of tacit knowledge

Statistical process control (SPC) theory takes a negative view of adjustment of process settings, which is termed tampering. In contrast, quality and lean programmes actively encourage operators to acts of intervention and personal agency in the improvement of production outcomes. This creates a conflict that requires operator judgement: How does one differentiate between unnecessary tampering ...

Objective Video Quality Assessment - Towards Large Scale Video Database Enhanced Model Development

The current development of video quality assessment algorithms suffers from the lack of available video sequences for training, verification and validation to determine and enhance the algorithm’s application scope. The Joint Effort Group of the Video Quality Experts Group (VQEG-JEG) is currently driving efforts towards the creation of large scale, reproducible, and easy to use databases. These...
